American Association of Hospital Dentists (AAHD)
The AAHD was established in 1937. In 1988, AAHD joined forces with ADPD and ASGD to become The Federation of Special Care Organizations in Dentistry - known today as the Special Care Dentistry Association (SCDA). AAHD has always been committed to comprehensive care of patients in the hospital setting.
Meet Our Board President
Dr. David Kurtzman
David Kurtzman, DDS, is an experienced dentist and longtime advocate for accessible dental care, with more than four decades of clinical and hospital-based experience. A graduate of Emory University School of Dentistry, Dr. Kurtzman spent nearly 40 years in private general practice and more than 40 years providing hospital-based dental care. He currently serves as Dental Director of the Mercer Center for IDD Care and Director of Cardiac Dental Call.
Dr. Kurtzman has been a volunteer dentist with the Ben Massell Dental Clinic since 1982 and has served on its Board of Directors since 2000. He is a longtime member of the Special Care Dentistry Association and a Fellow of both the Academy of General Dentistry and the International College of Dentists. He has also authored or co-authored numerous articles, book chapters, and three books on dental surgery and implant therapy.
